Our story begins in 2019 when Matt Briggs realized he could use the same equipment utilized by ice sculpture artists to make clear ice cubes for craft cocktails. Matt dove right into the sub-zero world of ice, honing his craft and developing a process for creating hand-cut cubes that were flavorless, odorless, and perfectly clear.
But, that was just the tip of the iceberg. Together with his siblings, Heather and Toby, Matt created a family-owned business and began taking their craft ice to bars, restaurants, and hotels around the Sacramento area. The response was overwhelming. Block Ice began to be served with high-end cocktails in some of the hottest bars and eateries in Sacramento, Napa, Stockton, Tahoe, and beyond. Patrons were loving the result: cocktails that maintained their flavor and slow-melting ice that didn’t dilute the strength of their drinks.
Today, Block Ice continues to push the boundaries of innovation and craftsmanship, adding personalized touches like stamps and add-ons to their cubes. The Block is also making it easier for people to enjoy the benefits of craft ice in the comfort of their own homes with the sale of bagged ice chips.
